The absolute best part about our job is getting to work with the couples that book us. One of the best ways we get to really know the people we work with is when we shoot engagement sessions. These shoots (sometimes we call them Love Shoots or simply E-Shoots) are always SO MUCH FUN.
(Yep, that’s Amy & Scott pictured above. Now that was a fun morning! Click here to see more from their shoot.)
Sadly many couples choose to exclude these sessions from their package due to cost, time, or they just don’t see the ‘need’ for them. Outside of these shoots being fun they actually serve many purposes as well.
(Everyone loves the pictures from Nicole & Jimmy’s shoot with the balloons! Click here to see more of their pictures.)
Engagement pictures allow the couple and photographers to get to know each other on a more personal level. This may not seem like a big deal but chemistry is important! You didn’t choose just anyone to marry so why would you choose just anyone to come to your wedding and take your picture?
Additionally most people aren’t used to people following them around snapping photos. Many people find getting their picture taken intimidating and sometimes stressful. The engagement session allows for a ‘photography-ice breaker’. Couples that take advantage of the engagement session are more comfortable on their wedding day because they KNOW their photographers aren’t going to make them look silly (or bad). They have a better understanding of the process and overall feel more comfortable in front of the camera(s) and taking with taking direction.
(Oh how we loved Natalie & Ryan’s pictures – aren’t they TOO cute?! Click here to see more of them!)
Many couples, even those who have been together for years, have never had a good set of photos taken of them. Being engaged is the perfect reason to get them done (and a fabulous way to celebrate). A lot of our clients use their photos as a part of their wedding slideshow, on their save-the-dates, programs, and wedding annoucements.
(Rachel & Josh’s Mizzou themed engagement session was a first for us. Their pictures fit them perfectly, click here to see more of their shoot.)
You’re only planning on being engaged once, why wouldn’t you get them done? If you’re not sure if you should do an engagement session – do it. It’s not an experience that you’ll regret (that’s a promise!). Even if you’ve already booked a package that doesn’t include a Love Shoot you can still add one on at any point before the wedding.
