Kristin & Matt {Parkville Wedding}

July 10, 2018 · Leave a Comment

Kristin & Matt are kind, faithful and quirky.  It was a privilege to watch them step into marriage together.  We joined them this spring for their special day in Parkville, Missouri.  Matt and his guys were jovial and so easy to hang out with.  It’s always an interesting experience to be a fly on the wall with a group of guys, all the little details, a few hilarious moments and we got them out the door for some photos.  We chose to just hang around VIP Event Space and utilize all the texture and space for our group photos time.  We always feel like low-key and easy the more amenable everyone is to the process!  It’s also funny how quickly people’s personalities can shine through – these guys were hilarious!

Kristin & her entourage of ladies showed up just as we finished with the guys.  They had a low key morning at the salon, wearing the best matching shirts we’ve seen in 10 years of photography!  Kristin was calm.  Her sister is a stylist and so she got the honor of completing her make up before donning the dress, all those special connections fill a wedding day with such importance.  Hanging with the ladies we kept asking, “where did you get that?!”  Kristin had made so many thoughtful choices about her attire in relationship to her wedding theme.  Sometimes in the planning process people deviate from their theme or don’t make enough choices to tie it together – but Kristin was very on point with her details.  LOVE the dancing shoes she scored and even more excited later when she and Matt busted out their awesome moves!

bridesmaids, matching outfits, getting ready attire

Seriously, aren’t those the cutest outfits?!

Once she was all ready to go it was first look time.  These two were so deliberate in the space they made for one another.  They opted to see each other in advance so they could exchange private personal vows -we won’t mention the quick run someone had to made to acquire said vows ;) but all is well that ends well!  It was a very touching exchange, it’s stuff like this that makes our work so special – witnessing these moments.

These ladies, like Kristin, got all dolled up in 20’s themed dresses, headgear and shoes.  We loved the variety of dresses and the cohesion she chose in the jewelry and headpieces.

Stay tuned for the rest of this day!

Jerome & Brynne Mission, Kansas Reception {Mission Hills Country Club}

January 21, 2018 · Leave a Comment

Mission Hills Country Club provided a tranquil and stunning backdrop for Brynne & Jerome’s wedding reception this fall.  After the ceremony Brynne & Jerome opted for bridal party portraits at the Nelson Atkins Museum of Art and then we traveled via trolly where they arrived at Missions Hills for their bride and groom portraits.  We had a lot of fun on this windy day with the cathedral length veil.

We’re big fans of a country club weddings, and of course Mission Hills is a favorite!  Brynne & Jerome had a head table where they seated their parents and grandparents, affectionally called the Hall Lee Jelly.  It was gestures like this which really left a mark on us as we witnessed their union.

Cake and then chimes to signal dinner, followed by toasts that made us laugh and cry and raise a glass to a live being lived well, and a bright and love-filled future being anticipated!

As a final touch of perfect for this day, KC Flo.  Seriously, this live band option with incredible mash ups quickly became our new favorite way to dance at a reception!!

They wouldn’t let the evening pass without a nod to their rivalry!  Which was so fun and engaging for everyone!

Jerome & Brynne, thank you for being so fantastic, for finding each other and choosing us to document your love.  We wish you a life of gratitude and love! XO – Sarah & Ginger

BTS 2016

December 16, 2016 · Leave a Comment

This year has been a wild ride, full of all the feels.  We have worked with amazing people, connected with amazing peers and (keeping it real) we both moved personally and moved our business two times so it’s been full of some tough and busy stuff too.  As life always is, highs and lows, but at the end we’re so lucky to be doing this work.  And doing this work together.

Enjoy a little behind the scenes, but a note about how we work before you do.  As I was looking through these a saying came to mind, one I think we say a ton.  “Okay, I’m going to touch you.” And then we proceed to physically direct our couples, move hair, hold up a skirt for a jump, etc.  Oy vey!  It’s just so much fun to do this work – “now yes, I am going to touch you and tuck your hair and I will protect you while you wipe sweat from wherever it has settled on this crazy hot day!”

Mike & Courtney’s Lake Quivera Country Club Wedding

August 8, 2016 · Leave a Comment

Courtney & Mike, these two are a delight.  Getting to know them and being part of their wedding this spring was such fun and brought us much joy.  They are what we lovingly call a second generation bride.  We met them when they were both standing alongside their good friends Jackie & Zach.  This is the best kind of thing for us, we go in with so much comfortability with the couple plus the added bonus that we know other people on the wedding day/wedding party.  This wedding was no exception – we just felt like we were hanging out with friends.  The day started out bright and with a tint of nervousness.  Courtney and her ladies took over the basement at Lake Quivira Country Club, it was all things wedding…hair, make up, mimosas, laughter and love!  We joined up with the men at the Prince of Peace Catholic Church.  This day was full of special moments, and falls lovely into of “big catholic wedding” which they personalized full of spanish traditions – we loved it!!  Take a look at some of our favorites, enjoy…

Brandon & Katie (Kansas City Engagement Session)

June 30, 2016 · Leave a Comment

We met with Katie & her mom, Donna, in preparation for the wedding since Brandon was out of town serving in the military.  He got back closer to the wedding and they opted to do an engagement session, so that they would be more comfortable during the wedding – which we believe strongly in this choice!  We popped out one evening to what we shall call, an undisclosed location, simply because on a long drive home one day I spotted it.  It was the perfect spot for this couple and their little pup Calla to cozy up and enjoy being together and engaged!

KC North Wedding Network Spring Photo Shoot {Part 2}

June 17, 2016 · Leave a Comment

On Wednesday we featured some of our portraits of Sidney and today we are showing off our model Abby.  We had 3 models back out on us before the shoot so we were thrilled when Abby, and then later Sidney too, were able to step in for us.  When Abby walked out in her dress with her hair and make up done I think every one of us just about melted.  What you may not know is that Abby is part of the team at Sweet Tables Kansas City, who are members of our networking group.  So I think the day of the shoot seeing her all dressed up we felt like she was the little sister who grew up and got married ;)

6BlogKCNWN

Abby wore a more traditional gown from Romancing the Gowns private label with a cathedral veil.  Shana accented each bridal look with a custom bouquet to match their dresses.  We loved how the blush pink looked with the lace top of her dress.  Too me she looked like Grace Kelly all day!

The veil, the flowers, the make up….they all played together perfectly to create this look.  This is why we always advocate that no one vendor will ‘make’ your wedding day.  Remember that ladies when you’re knee deep in planning!

10BlogKCNWN

Our goal with these shoots are to not only showcase our talents, but also to show prospective clients what a real wedding can look like.  Often times people turn to Pinterest for ideas but fall short of being able to recreate the look and feel they are going for.  With the right set of vendors those ideas are completely doable and in your reach!  I love that our team was able to showcase two different bridal looks (one more traditional and the other more modern, each equally romantic).  No matter where you are located in the metro or what your ideas are for your wedding you can contact our vendors through their sites below or through our network’s website by clicking here.  Trust us when we say you will be in very good hands!

Engagement Sessions, to have or not to have?

March 23, 2016 · Leave a Comment

We’ve talked about this before, and much of this post is pulling out of the archives, but it’s so important and something we talk about in person all the time so we decided a fresh post was in order.  We’ve said it a thousand times (because it’s true) the absolute best part about our job is getting to work with the couples that book us.  One of the best ways we get to really know the people we work with is when we shoot engagement sessions.

CM3

Sadly many couples choose to exclude these sessions from their package due to cost, time, or they just don’t see the ‘need’ for them.  Outside of these shoots being fun they actually serve many purposes as well.

BGBLOG1

Engagement pictures allow the couple and photographers to get to know each other on a more personal level.  This may not seem like a big deal but chemistry is important!  We are the wedding vendor that you’re likely going to spend the most time with, we’re with you through the day – up close and personal.  Building relationship and rapport is crucial.

 SarahJustin2

Additionally most people aren’t used to people following them around snapping photos.  Many people find getting their picture taken intimidating and sometimes stressful.  The engagement session allows for a ‘photography-ice breaker’.  Couples that take advantage of the engagement session are more comfortable on their wedding day because they KNOW their photographers aren’t going to make them look silly (or bad).  They have a better understanding of the process and overall feel more comfortable in front of the camera(s) and taking with taking direction.

AlyssaBrandon

You’re only planning on being engaged once, why wouldn’t you get them done?  If you’re not sure if you should do an engagement session – do it.  It’s not an experience that you’ll regret (that’s a promise!).  Even if you’ve already booked a package that doesn’t include an engagement session, you can still add one on at any point before the wedding.  To get more information about booking an engagement session contact us!

Sarah & Justin Westport Wedding Part 2 {Kansas City, MO}

February 25, 2016 · Leave a Comment

Today we’re back for Justin & Sarah’s ceremony at Californos in Westport (Kansas City).  This intimate exchange was just the perfect expression of these two.  A beautiful and simple floral backdrop, in the presence of their family and friends a few tears were shed, many smiles and hugs shared, all leading to the pronouncement that Sarah & Justin were now one!

SJBLOG12

SJBLOG13I just love the expressions on their faces above, and the full emotional experience they processed through together as we headed out for portraits.

SJBLOG14SJBLOG15SJBLOG16

Sarah’s family had a tradition, we’d heard of it, but didn’t know the details…Sarah didn’t know the details.  The newlyweds came into a room full of crowned family members, which of course their crowns were waiting too…it was fun and special, for these baseball fans!  This was all followed by toasts and then to break in the dance floor.

Sarah & Justin Westport Wedding {Kansas City, MO}

February 23, 2016 · 2 Comments

Sarah & Justin…love and laughter, yes even after spending great lengths of time with them, that is how I would describe them which carried through into their wedding celebration.
We joined up with the ladies at Parlor on the Plaza in Kansas City, Missouri.  They were being quaffed and prepared we then headed with them over to Hotel 816 to finish up the final preparation pieces.  The couple had been upgraded to a suite, a themed suite..TWA airline, it was such a quirky space.  After donning her dress, Sarah and her ladies wandered around Westport enjoying the beautiful weather and time together.

Then it was on to the guys.  These guys were hilarious, or at least they thought so, which really that’s all that matters (because trust me we think we’re much more hilarious then we are!)  These guys were such fun and besides a few creative suggestions, very amiable to be directed by us ;)

Erin & Nick Wedding Part II {Kansas City Wedding Photography}

February 11, 2016 · Leave a Comment

We’re back for part two, and jumping in right after the ceremony for our favorite portion of the day, portraits.  We thinking this is the most significant portion of the day, and allotting time to take these is key.  I can’t think of any couple who comes in after the wedding and the portrait session isn’t encompassing a good portion of their print choices.  The other part is often family photos, and we’ll be talking soon about reclaiming the family photo session of a wedding day as well.  Back to Erin & Nick’s photographs…

4ENBlog2ENBlog1ENBlog

The party began, as these things do, with the neighbor bringing the happy couple a jug of homemade wine.  First dance, toasts, games and food under the setting sun…kept cozy with warps, fires and s’mores.

7ENBlogNick & Erin –
Thank you for allowing us to get to know you and your family, allowing us to be up close and personal as you united your lives.
Much appreciation.
