Kristin & Matt Part Two {Parkville, Wedding}

July 12, 2018 · Leave a Comment

We’re back with part two of Matt & Kristin’s wedding day.  We left Parkville and headed to the city for the ceremony, but stopped at English Landing Park for portraits.

We traveled to Central Presbyterian Church of Kansas City, which is historic and huge and beautiful and laced with importance for Kristin, who is a chaplain. There was a dual aisle so Kristin and her dad walked down one side and Matt on the other.  They joined in the center and then went though a procession of high-fives by their bridal party.  Again, all the unique choices they made that curated to be a day that reflected and rejoiced with them.

The dance moves cam out!  We hung out in the basement while we waited for their luxury ride to arrive and enjoyed some moody light as they practiced for their first dance.  These two can dance.  It’s so fun to photograph swing and ballroom dancing and you could just tell these two love it!

After another quick stop – all the iconic KC stuff! We got back to the reception.  They opted for a donut tower as opposed to a traditional cake and seated their guests and themed tables and served them chicken & waffles for dinner!

They set the bar high with their first dance and their guests rose to the occasion!

Matt & Kristin, may you have a life time of dances, more (gluten free) donuts then you can imagine and just the best of adventures together! XO – Sarah & Ginger

Kristin & Matt {Parkville Wedding}

July 10, 2018 · Leave a Comment

Kristin & Matt are kind, faithful and quirky.  It was a privilege to watch them step into marriage together.  We joined them this spring for their special day in Parkville, Missouri.  Matt and his guys were jovial and so easy to hang out with.  It’s always an interesting experience to be a fly on the wall with a group of guys, all the little details, a few hilarious moments and we got them out the door for some photos.  We chose to just hang around VIP Event Space and utilize all the texture and space for our group photos time.  We always feel like low-key and easy the more amenable everyone is to the process!  It’s also funny how quickly people’s personalities can shine through – these guys were hilarious!

Kristin & her entourage of ladies showed up just as we finished with the guys.  They had a low key morning at the salon, wearing the best matching shirts we’ve seen in 10 years of photography!  Kristin was calm.  Her sister is a stylist and so she got the honor of completing her make up before donning the dress, all those special connections fill a wedding day with such importance.  Hanging with the ladies we kept asking, “where did you get that?!”  Kristin had made so many thoughtful choices about her attire in relationship to her wedding theme.  Sometimes in the planning process people deviate from their theme or don’t make enough choices to tie it together – but Kristin was very on point with her details.  LOVE the dancing shoes she scored and even more excited later when she and Matt busted out their awesome moves!

Seriously, aren’t those the cutest outfits?!

Once she was all ready to go it was first look time.  These two were so deliberate in the space they made for one another.  They opted to see each other in advance so they could exchange private personal vows -we won’t mention the quick run someone had to made to acquire said vows ;) but all is well that ends well!  It was a very touching exchange, it’s stuff like this that makes our work so special – witnessing these moments.

These ladies, like Kristin, got all dolled up in 20’s themed dresses, headgear and shoes.  We loved the variety of dresses and the cohesion she chose in the jewelry and headpieces.

Stay tuned for the rest of this day!

Brett & Gerica’s Brookside Gardens Wedding Part II {Brookside Kansas City, MO Photographer}

November 10, 2016 · Leave a Comment

Back for day two of Gerica & Brett’s Brookside Garden Wedding.  We simply loved the pallet and floral execution for this day, these ladies rocked the long assorted bridesmaids dresses and those sweet little gals with their flower girl wands…ah, yes all that you dream!

gerica-blog-1 gerica-blog-2 gerica-blog-3

You have to love a ceremony with PAGES of vows and a kiss taken before the official one offered by the officiant!  Like we said, these two are so wonderful and we definitely took them as our own, so we felt teary at the vows and commitment and their choice to stand up against all that life will give them hand-in-hand.  They also created this incredible braided ceremony which is now art for their wall. “Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.” -Ecclesiastes 4:12

We knew going in that this was not a dancing crowd, so Gerica & Brett ask we shadow them and ensure lots of photos of them connecting with those they love.  It was a bit of a different then a typical reception, but we really loved getting to see up close and fully their family and friends love them – but even more beautiful how these two love those around them.  Plus, isn’t that what great weddings are made of – the stuff that makes it specially about YOU not what’s typical!?  Good stuff you guys, the world needs more people, more couples, like this!

Gerica & Brett – insert all the gushy stuff here.  Simply put, you two rock.  Thank you for letting us be part of your marriage celebration.  Let’s hang out soon! XO – Sarah & Ginger.

Bryan & Marcy Wedding Part 2 {The Journey Home}

February 13, 2014 · Leave a Comment

We’re back for Part II of Marcy & Barney’s big day, catch up here.  We were excited that the day was beautiful enough for the ceremony out under the tree, facing the expansive fields that accent The Journey Home.  As farmers, and a guest list full of famers, it was the perfect view!  Touches of fall and nature were incorporated into the decor.  During the ceremony Barney & Marcy took letters they had written to one another and sealed them into a wooden box using hammers that belonged to each of their grandparents.  It was such a unique touch!

Then they were married!!  We snuck away just before the sun dipped below the horizon with the couple for a few minutes.

The barn was the perfect backdrop for this reception.  Coy (Best Man) gave the sweetest toast, his notes were complete with pauses for laughter and encouragement (for him) from his mom, Alicia.  He took the honor of standing up with Barney very serious, it was so cute!  S’mores, line dancing, laugher, good food and one more personalized part of this wedding was an ice cream tracker! Of course this tracker was one they had restored and converted for this special task on the big day.  (And the ice cream was delicious!)

Sincerest congratulations Barney & Marcy!  We wish you a lifetime of love & opportunities to surprise one another.  Thank you so much for inviting us into your lives.  XO – Ginger & Sarah

Mike & Melissa Wedding {Part 2}

January 9, 2014 · 4 Comments

We’re back for day two of Mike & Melissa’s wedding (catch up with this fantastic couple here).  As time for the ceremony neared, the sun began to tuck just below the tree line, casting the perfect October glow for the occasion.

The ceremony was personal, and performed by a friend.  He explained that as they made this choice, investing in one another and realizing the other’s value was of paramount importance.  He spoke of God’s value and expectations for marriage, he challenged, encouraged and affirmed them.  Vows, rings & a kiss were exchanged…and then it was official!

Gallagher Barn

We snuck away for a few minutes with the newlyweds…such a favorite part of any wedding day…just as they’ve come down the isle, greeted, bustled and kissed by their best and then we get to give them space to savor their new reality!  Melissa rocked it (look at her being fierce!)

Reception time! They had live music for their first dance, twinkle lights accenting the romantic vibe and moving toasts expressing love for the couple.

Mike & Melissa Wedding {Part1}

January 7, 2014 · 5 Comments

These two are really incredible people, put them together and the world is simply a better place.  They are attentive, funny and genuine.  We immediately felt comfortable around them and getting to know them felt natural and easy from the beginning.  It’s so simple to see why they are choosing to spend their lives together…because when they are together they are more themselves then ever before.

We showed up to Melissa prepping for her big day in the coziness of her own house…the home she’s building with Mike.  She was surrounded by family and friends.  Mike left a really sweet letter and beautiful necklace for his wife-to-be to open as she prepped, as you can see, he did good!

We left the ladies and headed to the hotel to meet up with the guys.  I love how Mike was helping everyone else get ready, speaks to his character.  This group of guys was so laid back and relaxed, they were just having fun being together…gotta love that!

We met with Mike & Melissa, as we always do, a month before their wedding.  Melissa had been doing lots of DIY, scouting of the perfect items, dreaming and preparing…but man was this girl nervous about how it was going to come together.  She was so nervous it made us nervous.  We walked in and were blown away.  She had done an excellent job decorating the Gallagher Barn, paying attention to all the smallest of details…like childhood pictures of her and Mike decorating/distinguishing the men/women’s bathroom doors!  We really loved how it came together…from the wood chargers, to the wild flowers, to the mason jar favors, to the bunting banners, to the twinkle lights and wedding fabric on the ceiling & around the room…it all came together so wonderfully, a reflection of her work and dedication!

Gallagher Barn is in Bonner Springs and there were some events going on in town, so we opted to hang out at the venue for pictures.  Wedding parties like this are fantastic, its so evident that they are there in love and support of the couple.  You’d assume that any wedding party would be, and most are, but the authenticity of the people that Mike & Melissa chose to stand in support of them reflects the value they place on relationships in their lives.

Check back on Thursday for more!
