Scott & Cailin Madrid Theater Wedding {Midtown, Kansas City, MO}

March 26, 2018 · Leave a Comment

Scott & Cailin got married in a cool October weekend.  Their day was full of personal touches, family heirlooms, intentional choices, nods to their passions/interests and best of all, celebration.  All things, that weddings should be in our opinion!  We began the day at The 816 Hotel in the heart of Midtown where Cailin was gathered with her ladies, her mom, Scott’s mom & sisters.  Just one floor up Scott & his groomsmen were preparing.  It’s always amusing to compare the hustle and bustle with a bride with the relaxed joking and video games surrounding grooms.  It was easy to tell that both Scott & Cailin were nervous as well as excited for the day the lay ahead.

Because of the fall season and their ceremony time and Missouri – for real – they opted for a sneak peek.  We were able to duck out of the hotel with just the bride & groom and head to The Nelson Art Galley (where Cailin works!) for their first look.  The couple decided to exchange rings during this time, which we felt was a very special touch. We met up with the bridal party at a local arcade.  This felt like the perfect spot for Scott, the comic & game enthusiast!  With a few tables moved around, a few chairs to stand on ;) and some creative thinking – we were able to snag some fun images of the group as well!

We then took a trolly over toward Pilgrim Chapel and had a lot of fun with group portraits on some stairs on the side of an old building.  The weather was turning on us and getting seriously SOO cold, so we were all happy to get moving toward ceremony time!

Check back for part two at the Madrid Theater!

Jerome & Brynne Mission, Kansas Reception {Mission Hills Country Club}

January 21, 2018 · Leave a Comment

Mission Hills Country Club provided a tranquil and stunning backdrop for Brynne & Jerome’s wedding reception this fall.  After the ceremony Brynne & Jerome opted for bridal party portraits at the Nelson Atkins Museum of Art and then we traveled via trolly where they arrived at Missions Hills for their bride and groom portraits.  We had a lot of fun on this windy day with the cathedral length veil.

We’re big fans of a country club weddings, and of course Mission Hills is a favorite!  Brynne & Jerome had a head table where they seated their parents and grandparents, affectionally called the Hall Lee Jelly.  It was gestures like this which really left a mark on us as we witnessed their union.

Cake and then chimes to signal dinner, followed by toasts that made us laugh and cry and raise a glass to a live being lived well, and a bright and love-filled future being anticipated!

As a final touch of perfect for this day, KC Flo.  Seriously, this live band option with incredible mash ups quickly became our new favorite way to dance at a reception!!

They wouldn’t let the evening pass without a nod to their rivalry!  Which was so fun and engaging for everyone!

Jerome & Brynne, thank you for being so fantastic, for finding each other and choosing us to document your love.  We wish you a life of gratitude and love! XO – Sarah & Ginger

Kelsie & David’s Jefferson City, MO Wedding

November 1, 2017 · Leave a Comment

We met up with Kelsie & David for their labor day wedding weekend in Jefferson City, Missouri.  Being close to our home area, it was fun to celebrate with them outside of Kansas City that we were familiar with.  Kelsie grew up in this parish, as did many of her bridesmaids.  Its special to be in a space that holds so much history for a couple, and it doesn’t hurt that Immaculate Conception Church is absolutely stunning.  We started the day with some fun with the groomsmen!  David was nervous and good natured, he’s groomsmen kept us on our toes! We were able to talk about many things, and the topic of health came up. When I first started working as a photographer I noticed I was getting very tired, much faster than I was expecting. It came to a point that I thought I had to see a doctor. I looked up online for answers and after a lot of research I came up with the theory that I was not hydrating myself well enough, and perhaps my diet was not as balanced as I thought it was. I now always carry a water bottle with me and try to make sure I drink at least 2 liters a day, along with a natural health supplement called KratomMasters. What a difference it made! I was so glad that the solution was so simple, for a moment I was afraid something was medically wrong with me. Now I’m able to handle even those really heavy legwork days and can have long photography sessions. Food for thought!

You can’t be near Kelsie long without becoming introduced to her laugh.  It’s full of life and love and we’re pretty obsessed with how darling she looks when she laughs, and even better how her laughter can draw in everyone around her.

Kelsie & David wanted to be near each other and exchange letters but not SEE each other.  This was a great way to fulfill that request and the sweetness in their proximity was pretty special, and while it did calm nervous I think it served to make them even more anxious to get down the aisle!

About to be official, love the final walk with dad’s…

Their officiant, who took time to know the couple and create a meaningful ceremony, was so fun and hospitable to everyone as Kelsie & David said yes to a future together.

Check back for portraits and reception fun!!

Dakota & Emily Wedding – Kansas City The Barn at Schwinn Produce Farm

July 18, 2017 · Leave a Comment

Dakota & Emily chose to say I do on Memorial Day weekend at The Schwinn Produce Barn in Leavenworth, Kansas.  We arrived and the weather is typical midwest, rainy.  We’ve started to wonder if all barn weddings this year will fall on rainy days!  Less cold then our last, the day turned out to be perfect for an outdoor wedding.  Emily is a hair stylist, so it was fun to watch her getting primped and fussed over.  She’s also, stunning!  We loved watching her mama tear up in joy watching her daughter throughout the morning.

A first look with her dad.  Oh my gosh, all the tears.  It was so such a sweet moment.  We love when brides choose to be so intentional with the people in their lives, to take moments to say you matter and I want to create a memory with you.  These sorts of moments and ways of being seem to come so naturally to these two.

It’s always amazing to see the difference in what it takes for a bride to get ready for a wedding and what it takes for a groom.  Though, these gentleman pulled together nicely and we loved the Schwinn Barn as a back drop for the guys.

Again, more moments created and carved out for intentionality.  Emily got Dakota a new watch and set the time for 1PM (ceremony time!) – so thoughtful!  Dakota picked out a charm bracelet that he will be able to add to over the years for Emily – and his note brought out all the tears from his bride.  (The hankie, Emily made for her bridesmaids – we loved them too!)

First look time!!  The Schwinn Produce Barn has such a wonderfully set up property (and amazing staff!), their outdoor ceremony area is covered in turf, so even though it was drizzling, we had a perfect spot for these two love birds to see each other for the first time.  Partway out to Dakota – Emily paused and started to giggle – which brought out the best smile in Dakota.  These two are just so sweet, you can’t help but adore them.Schwinn Produce Barn Wedding

Portrait time.  OH yes, portrait time.  Rainy mornings lead to perfection, at least we think so!    Schwinn Produce Barn Wedding

Check here for the rest of this lovely day!
