Scott & Cailin Madrid Theater Wedding Part Two {Midtown, Kansas City, MO}

March 28, 2018 · Leave a Comment

Back today for part two of Scott & Cailin’s wedding.  We headed over to the Madrid Theater for ceremony & reception time.  It’s a beautiful space.  Often couples get trapped by beautiful spaces and opting to do too many small things and miss making an impact.  We were super impressed by Cailin’s choice to do large focal florals for her ceremony (that doubled after the reception space flipped).   They added interest, color and impact without a lot of work on her part! The table designs were simple and tasteful spread with their favorite literature quotes, candles and homemade apple butter favors!

After all the nerves which melted beautifully into contented joy, everyone was ready to let the party begin!  The Madrid does such a fantastic job and accommodates wedding/ceremony combos so well!  While the staff flipped the ceremony space for dancing and dinner, the guest enjoyed drinks upstairs!  BBQ for dinner, great live music, quilt-square guest book, good friends and lots of laughter carried this event into the evening.  As we mentioned before, this wedding was particularly special for us since we grew up with Scott – so we got to enjoy the evening with lots of familiar faces!!

Congratulations Scott & Cailin!  We wish you much love and adventure.  XO – Sarah & Ginger

Dakota & Emily Wedding at The Barn at Schwinn Produce Farm Part II (Leavenworth Wedding Photography)

July 20, 2017 · Leave a Comment

Back today with photography from Emily & Dakota’s ceremony & reception at The Barn at Schwinn Produce Farm in Leavenworth, KS.   The arbor was draped in the most beautiful garland (which later moved to the head table) by Wild Hill Flowers, live guitar played and the wood chairs were perfectly accented by white ribbon and simple floral choices.  Emily’s brother officiated the wedding, and it was moving and personal – what a great choice!  The day couldn’t have come together more beautifully for these two.

These two high school sweethearts, were brought to tears (& of course laughter) by their siblings during their reception.  Being reminded of the depth of love that surrounded them as they step into this new phase of life.

Okay, normally we say, don’t smash the cake (silently in our heads of course)…because brides don’t usually want to be covered in icing.  But in what can be only described as perfectly playful and lighthearted delight, within seconds of getting the cake her hand, Emily let loose on Dakota – smashing cake everywhere!  It was so fitting and silly and what a great start to the party!

Abby & Dylan Weston, Missouri Bakery Engagement Session

June 28, 2017 · Leave a Comment

We are so very happy for Abby to have found someone so completely perfect for her.  She’s found a fermentation technician (bread baker!), a hard-worker, a good man to build life with.  For Dylan, to he has found a joyful and sweet helpmate, full of compassion and kindness.  We couldn’t be more honored to be apart of this couple’s wedding.  Bakery Engagement Session Weston Missouri

We met Abby as we’ve developed relationships with fellow wedding vendors here in our beloved Northland Kansas City.  When we met, Abby and her mom were on a journey to opening and establishing the cutest cafe in Platte City, Bee Creek Bakery.  If you follow us on Facebook & Instagram, you’ve seen us mention them before!  So, it’s only natural that Abby met Dylan as Bee Creek established their bread vendor for cafe through Dylan’s small batch wood-fired bread shop, Hearth Bread Co.  Over the course of their business together Dylan offered to have Abby simply text her orders to him ;) for convenience of course.  As they say, the rest is history!

For their session we thought baking would make a wonderful ‘activity’ to make the portrait session more unique to them, which is always our goal!  We met them in Weston, on a cool rainy summer morning this week for their engagement session at the home they are building together.  Before we began photographing the rain came down outside and we shared giant mugs of coffee while they shared the history Weston and their home with us – seriously it’s stuff like this that make us so fortunate to do this work!  Dylan is rebuilding, what will become their home.  He’d started just before they met but she’s joined and complimented his progress.  This cottage was the first trapping cabin after Lewis and Clark passed through what is now Weston, beams show original hatchet marks!

In 750 square feet as you can image the kitchen is functional, we were amazed at the perfect harmony these two have in the kitchen.  These professionals shined in the kitchen, so graceful together, like a well rehearsed dance.  Together they made a “love pie” together – which we enjoyed after the session and it tasted AMAZING!

We rounded out the session outside enjoying their awesome view of the historic town – right before the rain chased us in to enjoy pie and more coffee!

Laughter pours out of these two.  We feel lighter and happier after being in their presence.  We can’t wait to watch them build life together, and look forward to the perfect fall wedding celebration!  Wishing you all the best.  XO – Sarah & Ginger

Samantha & Brian’s Loose Park Spring Engagement Session {Kansas City, Missouri}

April 26, 2017 · Leave a Comment

This spring, when we planned to meet up at Loose Park for Brian & Samantha’s engagement session, it was our first time in-person hanging out with them.  See, we first heard about these two via their biggest fan – Samantha’s mom, Carol.  We met her at a wedding show last fall and instantly connected.  She is hilarious, but one thing was certain she thinks the world of her two kids.  That’s how she referred to her daughter and her future son-in-law, which we just think is so endearing and what the world needs more of!  We ended up “meeting” them via FaceTime because of one of our many snowpocalypes this winter, when they were in from Denver – where it actual snows and stuff :)  So we were anticipating quality face-to-face time a few weeks ago.  As luck would have it, we picked the same location and timing as a big race – just to make things interesting, ha!

engagement session in loose park kansas

We pushed through crazy race traffic, blocked streets, and even through runners for this session and ended up getting the coveted Loose Park Rose Garden and pond area practically to ourselves.  These two were such fun to hang out with.  They brought their pups to play too – one was well behaved ;) One may or may not have created a fiasco with the runners!

Brian & Samantha are both corrections officers, and we’d been advised that Brian doesn’t like his picture taken – we hear this SO much!  Which is why we always tell our couples to not skip the engagement session and to be sure it’s done by your wedding photographers.   kansas city loose park engagement couple photography poses by boutique photography studioblog 4There was just the right amount of budding flowers in the park to make it feel like perfect spring in KC!blog 5Kansas City Bridge Pose Engagement Session Loose Park Rose Garden KC

Creative Event Studio is now known as Sarah & Ginger Photography!

March 17, 2017 · 2 Comments

That title says it all, after years (seriously) of debating whether or not we should change our business name we have decided to make the leap and do it.  Why?  The name Creative Event Studio has served us well over the last 8 years but to be honest, after the first year we knew that it just wasn’t ‘right’.  Many of you will remember that when we first launched the business we had intentions of doing photography and event design.  We still love a great party, but we pretty quickly decided that photography was the best fit for us.  The bad part is that after we dropped that service offering our name really didn’t make sense.  The side effect of the ‘bad’ name is that because we are a two person team (and the two of us are often confused for the other at first meeting) is that it wasn’t memorable.  If by chance someone did remember the name then they didn’t necessarily remember our names, if they did remember our personal names then they couldn’t remember the business name.  That’s just not good!

SARAH-AND-GINGER-FILLED-IN

The overwhelming response to this change so far has been very positive!  In our hearts we feel like this change is good.  Nothing else about us is changing, just the name.  We are still the same girls, same photography, same products – just a new name!  We are excited about this new chapter (even though the paperwork is such a drudge to get through) and beyond happy to have a name that we feel matches us and our service.

If you are already following along with us on social media then the only difference that you may notice are the handles.  Instead of being known as @photosbyces we will be @sarahgingerphoto.  Follow us on Instagram, or on Facebook.

What do you guys think – is the new name better?  And what do you think of the logo?  We big, puffy heart love it.  ;)

BTS 2016

December 16, 2016 · Leave a Comment

This year has been a wild ride, full of all the feels.  We have worked with amazing people, connected with amazing peers and (keeping it real) we both moved personally and moved our business two times so it’s been full of some tough and busy stuff too.  As life always is, highs and lows, but at the end we’re so lucky to be doing this work.  And doing this work together.

Enjoy a little behind the scenes, but a note about how we work before you do.  As I was looking through these a saying came to mind, one I think we say a ton.  “Okay, I’m going to touch you.” And then we proceed to physically direct our couples, move hair, hold up a skirt for a jump, etc.  Oy vey!  It’s just so much fun to do this work – “now yes, I am going to touch you and tuck your hair and I will protect you while you wipe sweat from wherever it has settled on this crazy hot day!”

Brandon & Alyssa’s Deer Creek Outdoor Ceremony & Reception Part II {Wedding Photography}

We always love sneaking away for a few minutes to let them just be married!ab-blog-20

After all the planning and preparation that Brandon and Alyssa put into their wedding day it was time to let loose and enjoy the night!  The reception started off with heartfelt toasts and a thank you from the couple and then the fun started.  Our job is 1000% more fun when the weddings are a dancing crowd, and this one was (evidence below).  Normally when collections run a little big we cut back on the dancing pictures, but in this case we left lots in because they were so fun!

Brandon & Alyssa’s Deer Creek Outdoor Ceremony & Reception {Wedding Photography}

December 6, 2016 · Leave a Comment

Brandon & Alyssa said, “I do” this summer at Deer Creek Country Club.  And as we shared after their engagement, these two are just so likable.  It is an incredible thing to walk into a group of women getting dressed for the day and be welcomed into their laughter and joy and friendship.  We were very quickly smitten by the families and friends of these two.  Their day was full of special surprises, important details, personalized cupcakes and lots of joy!  Take a peek into their day…

These guys were on point, sometimes guys don’t like to be in front of the camera or need a little more encouragement to pose, but not Brandon and his men, they were ready to go and made our job so simple!ab-blog-5

Seriously, these robes, these ladies…a blast!ab-blog-6 ab-blog-7 ab-blog-8

Okay, that face Alyssa is making, that’s the moment she saw herself as a bride.  It was awesome.  Alyssa’s charm and grace come from straight from her awesome mom, Camilla!  We love moments with mothers & daughters pre-ceremony. ab-blog-9 ab-blog-10

Opting for a sneak peek, we headed into a beautiful portrait session with these two.  They just melted into each other and were such a breeze!ab-blog-11 ab-blog-12 ab-blog-13 ab-blog-14

Seriously, these two!  Check on Thursday for the rest of their wedding.

Jason & Nichole’s Westport Engagement Session {Fortuity & Julep KC}

November 18, 2016 · Leave a Comment

Jason and Nichole are both in the medical field. He is a Family Practice Physician in the Northland and she is a nurse educator at Park University (Northland proud!).  Nichole describes Jason as her forever-cocktail partner, sports enthusiast, fur baby parent and life adventure…I mean what’s not to love about that?!  They decided, as we love, for a location that was among the things they love doing as a couple.  So after a quick stop to capture that infamous “Kansas City I’m so in love” wall, we rocked this session – cocktails and all – at Julep KC.  These two are down to earth and low key.  They would have much rather we put down our cameras and had cocktails with them, that’s when they relax and connect so wonderfully.  That being said, we’re proud of them for rocking this session!  Hope you enjoy.

Brett & Gerica’s Brookside Gardens Wedding Part II {Brookside Kansas City, MO Photographer}

November 10, 2016 · Leave a Comment

Back for day two of Gerica & Brett’s Brookside Garden Wedding.  We simply loved the pallet and floral execution for this day, these ladies rocked the long assorted bridesmaids dresses and those sweet little gals with their flower girl wands…ah, yes all that you dream!

gerica-blog-1 gerica-blog-2 gerica-blog-3

You have to love a ceremony with PAGES of vows and a kiss taken before the official one offered by the officiant!  Like we said, these two are so wonderful and we definitely took them as our own, so we felt teary at the vows and commitment and their choice to stand up against all that life will give them hand-in-hand.  They also created this incredible braided ceremony which is now art for their wall. “Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.” -Ecclesiastes 4:12

gerica-blog-4

gerica-blog-10gerica-blog-8gerica-blog-9

We knew going in that this was not a dancing crowd, so Gerica & Brett ask we shadow them and ensure lots of photos of them connecting with those they love.  It was a bit of a different then a typical reception, but we really loved getting to see up close and fully their family and friends love them – but even more beautiful how these two love those around them.  Plus, isn’t that what great weddings are made of – the stuff that makes it specially about YOU not what’s typical!?  Good stuff you guys, the world needs more people, more couples, like this!

gerica-blog-5gerica-blog-6gerica-blog-7

Gerica & Brett – insert all the gushy stuff here.  Simply put, you two rock.  Thank you for letting us be part of your marriage celebration.  Let’s hang out soon! XO – Sarah & Ginger.
