Scott & Cailin Madrid Theater Wedding Part Two {Midtown, Kansas City, MO}

March 28, 2018 · Leave a Comment

Back today for part two of Scott & Cailin’s wedding.  We headed over to the Madrid Theater for ceremony & reception time.  It’s a beautiful space.  Often couples get trapped by beautiful spaces and opting to do too many small things and miss making an impact.  We were super impressed by Cailin’s choice to do large focal florals for her ceremony (that doubled after the reception space flipped).   They added interest, color and impact without a lot of work on her part! The table designs were simple and tasteful spread with their favorite literature quotes, candles and homemade apple butter favors!

After all the nerves which melted beautifully into contented joy, everyone was ready to let the party begin!  The Madrid does such a fantastic job and accommodates wedding/ceremony combos so well!  While the staff flipped the ceremony space for dancing and dinner, the guest enjoyed drinks upstairs!  BBQ for dinner, great live music, quilt-square guest book, good friends and lots of laughter carried this event into the evening.  As we mentioned before, this wedding was particularly special for us since we grew up with Scott – so we got to enjoy the evening with lots of familiar faces!!

Congratulations Scott & Cailin!  We wish you much love and adventure.  XO – Sarah & Ginger

Jerome & Brynne Mission, Kansas Wedding {Cure of Ars Catholic Church}

January 19, 2018 · Leave a Comment

The day always lingers for a bride, just more details to primp and prep and double check.  Brynne and her ladies arrived and busied with all such details.  Soon she was ready for a first look with her dad.  We just love these moments.  Carving out space to acknowledge and be present together.  Brynne’s look with her dad was full of tender joy.  Shortly there after, it was time for the big reveal…there was this moment, this pause as Brynne put her hands on Jerome’s arms – signaling her arrival – where they seemed to pause together and value that anticipation of the a moment before he turned to take in his bride.  It’s impossible to describe, but one of the amazing elements of being a wedding photographer.

Baptized two days apart (he in Tennessee, she in Kansas City right there at the Cure of Ars), this day was destined to be.  They met at a young adults volleyball game at their new parish in Chicago and a such date lead to September 21st on a rooftop where Jerome decided to ask and she said yes!  I was really struck by the priest’s encouragement for them to pray gratitude for one another daily, to talk and communicate daily.  He spoke to these as the keys to their successful married life.  To live out of a place of gratitude even when coming to that place requires effort is, I think, the best marriage advice once can give or receive.  For Brynne & Jerome it was a touching ceremony, filled with personalized decisions and participants, specifically chosen music and musicians, all coming together as a room full of people standing and saying yes we will support and love you as you move into this new life together!

Join us back for the rest of the portraits at the Nelson Atkin Museum of Art and lots of great wedding festivities at Mission Hills Country Club.

Kelsie & David’s Jefferson City, MO Wedding

November 1, 2017 · Leave a Comment

We met up with Kelsie & David for their labor day wedding weekend in Jefferson City, Missouri.  Being close to our home area, it was fun to celebrate with them outside of Kansas City that we were familiar with.  Kelsie grew up in this parish, as did many of her bridesmaids.  Its special to be in a space that holds so much history for a couple, and it doesn’t hurt that Immaculate Conception Church is absolutely stunning.  We started the day with some fun with the groomsmen!  David was nervous and good natured, he’s groomsmen kept us on our toes! We were able to talk about many things, and the topic of health came up. When I first started working as a photographer I noticed I was getting very tired, much faster than I was expecting. It came to a point that I thought I had to see a doctor. I looked up online for answers and after a lot of research I came up with the theory that I was not hydrating myself well enough, and perhaps my diet was not as balanced as I thought it was. I now always carry a water bottle with me and try to make sure I drink at least 2 liters a day, along with a natural health supplement called KratomMasters. What a difference it made! I was so glad that the solution was so simple, for a moment I was afraid something was medically wrong with me. Now I’m able to handle even those really heavy legwork days and can have long photography sessions. Food for thought!

You can’t be near Kelsie long without becoming introduced to her laugh.  It’s full of life and love and we’re pretty obsessed with how darling she looks when she laughs, and even better how her laughter can draw in everyone around her.

Kelsie & David wanted to be near each other and exchange letters but not SEE each other.  This was a great way to fulfill that request and the sweetness in their proximity was pretty special, and while it did calm nervous I think it served to make them even more anxious to get down the aisle!

About to be official, love the final walk with dad’s…

Their officiant, who took time to know the couple and create a meaningful ceremony, was so fun and hospitable to everyone as Kelsie & David said yes to a future together.

Check back for portraits and reception fun!!

Scott and Valerie Wedding Part II {Coin, Iowa}

November 5, 2015 · 2 Comments

We always sneak away after a ceremony for portraits it’s always nice to give the couples a few minutes to soak in their newly married status.  We drove down the road and back down an overgrown path with a bridge…perfectly secluded and tucked away.

Some glorious light and a surprise toss of extra rose petals from the flower girls, then we headed over to the reception.
Valerie had decorated their barn for the party.  Red, white, rustic and charming!

As the evening settled toward darkness, the wish lanterns started being lit.  It was a unique challenge, possibly with fear of catching people on fire – think blow torch….but really a lot of fun!

VSBLOG13 The best part of this wedding seriously was spending time with this group.  They so fully welcomed us into their family, their lives and this day that we felt as much a part of the celebration as any guest.  We are beyond humbled to be honorary family members … this really is the highest honor we receive from this incredible work that we do.  Thank you so much Valerie & Scott for counting us as part of your celebration.  We wish you a lifetime full of love and happiness.  XO – Sarah & Ginger

Brett & Gerica {Brookside Engagement Session}

October 22, 2015 · Leave a Comment

These two are so fantastic.  Laid back and fun to hang out with.  They chose Brookside for their engagement session, but nowhere specific, so Ginger & I showed up early to scout out the best location for this evening session.  If you follow us on snapchat (if you don’t why not?!) then you know that we were drawn in and tempted by the community garden at Border Star Montessori School for our starting location.  Brett & Gerica showed up and were so comfortable being directed, it was such a relaxed session.  We explored the gardens, laughed and then headed over to Wornall Road Baptist Church for the finishing of the session (which ended up my favorite).  On to the photos….

BGBLOG BGBLOG1 BGBLOG2Gerica & Brett – Thank you so much for letting us be a part of preparing for your wedding day!  We can’t wait to celebrate with you this spring.  XO- Sarah & Ginger

Adam & Sara’s Town Square Paola, KS Wedding Part II {Real Weddings}

August 20, 2015 · 5 Comments

Back for part two of Sara & Adam’s wedding, get caught up here.  As Sara and her mom came down the aisle all the energy and anticipation of her heart were so visible…and so endearing…what an honor to watch them tie their lives together.

SAblog

We always take our couples for 10-15 minutes IMMEDIATELY following the ceremony.  We usually just stand back and let them be married, it’s one of the few spaces they get to just be together with minimal interruption.  Often our favorite portraits come out of these times…Sara & Adam were no exception.

SAblog1

Sara had raved about Town Square, so we walked in with high expectations…and they were not dashed.  They were fantastic and helped pull all Sara’s vision together.

Here’s where the DJ scratches the record and you hear, “it’s time to get funky.”  Hankerchiefs go flying, dollar bills are flung about…the group new what a party should look like…and we loved it!  They knew how to PAR-TAY!  After toasts and cake the dancing really started…

SAblog5

Sara & Adam, we wish you a lifetime of dance parties, soccer games, laughter, joy and most of all love!!  Thank you for letting us be a part of your day.  XO- Sarah & Ginger

Jackie & Zach Wedding {Part 2}

October 17, 2014 · Leave a Comment

After the ceremony we loaded into the limo and headed out to a park nearby for the wedding party pictures and plenty of portrait time!  Jackie & Zach had gotten Ray Bans for everyone in their wedding party, I’m not sure if it was the sunglasses or just the group, but the sass came out!  They were such a fun group.

1Zackie

After we left the wedding party, we took a small little pit stop near the reception with just Jackie & Zach.  We just adore these two, and they really make our job so easy! And it was during this time that we coined, “Be the Zach to my Jackie!”

2Zackie

I mean seriously, look at these two…it just doesn’t get much better then working with people who are head over heels for each other!!

3Zackie

We then headed back to the reception…they had fun entrances…napkins being thrown in the air and lots of posing.  First dance, dinner,  toasts, cake and parent dances before the party began.  We love receptions where the group gets dancing.  This group was up and dancing quickly, which makes us dancing less obvious!  We also had to make a pitstop in the photobooth.
