Kristin & Matt {Parkville Wedding}

July 10, 2018 · Leave a Comment

Kristin & Matt are kind, faithful and quirky.  It was a privilege to watch them step into marriage together.  We joined them this spring for their special day in Parkville, Missouri.  Matt and his guys were jovial and so easy to hang out with.  It’s always an interesting experience to be a fly on the wall with a group of guys, all the little details, a few hilarious moments and we got them out the door for some photos.  We chose to just hang around VIP Event Space and utilize all the texture and space for our group photos time.  We always feel like low-key and easy the more amenable everyone is to the process!  It’s also funny how quickly people’s personalities can shine through – these guys were hilarious!

Kristin & her entourage of ladies showed up just as we finished with the guys.  They had a low key morning at the salon, wearing the best matching shirts we’ve seen in 10 years of photography!  Kristin was calm.  Her sister is a stylist and so she got the honor of completing her make up before donning the dress, all those special connections fill a wedding day with such importance.  Hanging with the ladies we kept asking, “where did you get that?!”  Kristin had made so many thoughtful choices about her attire in relationship to her wedding theme.  Sometimes in the planning process people deviate from their theme or don’t make enough choices to tie it together – but Kristin was very on point with her details.  LOVE the dancing shoes she scored and even more excited later when she and Matt busted out their awesome moves!

Seriously, aren’t those the cutest outfits?!

Once she was all ready to go it was first look time.  These two were so deliberate in the space they made for one another.  They opted to see each other in advance so they could exchange private personal vows -we won’t mention the quick run someone had to made to acquire said vows ;) but all is well that ends well!  It was a very touching exchange, it’s stuff like this that makes our work so special – witnessing these moments.

These ladies, like Kristin, got all dolled up in 20’s themed dresses, headgear and shoes.  We loved the variety of dresses and the cohesion she chose in the jewelry and headpieces.

Stay tuned for the rest of this day!

Caitlin & Mick Wedding {Excelsior Springs, MO}

September 2, 2014 · 14 Comments

Since these two had a destination wedding in Florida they planned a reception for their local friends and family at home in Excelsior at the Paradise Playhouse.  The playhouse is meaningful to them because they both worked and starred in productions there.  We have enjoyed getting to know these two very much.  They look at each other with adoration and their interactions are filled with love.  We joined up with them at the Playhouse while they got ready, seriously they are the sweetest with one another.  Since they were already married, it was pretty low key.  The Playhouse was such a cool backdrop for getting ready!

We headed over the The Elms Hotel & Spa for formal photos and some time taking portraits with the couple.  It was so rainy, but we lucked out for some dry skies for just the perfect amount of time!

Check back on Thursday for the rest of this reception!

Austin & Kyle Wedding {Seven Bridges}

July 1, 2014 · 2 Comments

We met up with Kyle & Austin at Seven Bridges located in Platte City, the site of their ceremony & reception.  Kyle was so relaxed and surrounded by her sisters, nieces, mom and grandma – so many ladies!  We really enjoyed getting to know both sides of this family.  It was apparent how  loved these two are and how important their families are to them.  Kyle even donned a couple details symbolizing very special loved ones, a pin from her grandfather and a gorgeous veil worn by her birth mother.

Soon after we got Kyle tucked away, Austin and his guys showed up.  These guys were really excited about some special tokens Austin got for them…super hero t-shirts & matching tie clips.  After we got done photographing them goofing around, Austin had a scurry of activity making sure his hair was perfectly in place, tie tied and boutonniere properly pinned!

We love when couples opt for a first look!  Seven Bridges was set up nicely for us to have a birds-eye location for shooting this first look from two totally different angles.  We did venture outside with the couple for some pictures, with the bridal party in tow.  About the time the bridal party met up with us, the rain started coming down.  Kyle & Austin huddled under the reflector with Ginger & I to see if the rain would move out quickly…after deciding that it was their good luck wedding day rain, we headed back to the cars.  Ginger and I were nearly blown away when trying to keep up with Kyle’s train as she ran….we’d forgotten this lady is a runner and she was serious about getting out of the rain!!  Again, the open lobby was perfect for our cause!

Bryan & Marcy Wedding Part 2 {The Journey Home}

February 13, 2014 · Leave a Comment

We’re back for Part II of Marcy & Barney’s big day, catch up here.  We were excited that the day was beautiful enough for the ceremony out under the tree, facing the expansive fields that accent The Journey Home.  As farmers, and a guest list full of famers, it was the perfect view!  Touches of fall and nature were incorporated into the decor.  During the ceremony Barney & Marcy took letters they had written to one another and sealed them into a wooden box using hammers that belonged to each of their grandparents.  It was such a unique touch!

Then they were married!!  We snuck away just before the sun dipped below the horizon with the couple for a few minutes.

The barn was the perfect backdrop for this reception.  Coy (Best Man) gave the sweetest toast, his notes were complete with pauses for laughter and encouragement (for him) from his mom, Alicia.  He took the honor of standing up with Barney very serious, it was so cute!  S’mores, line dancing, laugher, good food and one more personalized part of this wedding was an ice cream tracker! Of course this tracker was one they had restored and converted for this special task on the big day.  (And the ice cream was delicious!)

Sincerest congratulations Barney & Marcy!  We wish you a lifetime of love & opportunities to surprise one another.  Thank you so much for inviting us into your lives.  XO – Ginger & Sarah

Bryan & Marcy Wedding {The Journey Home}

February 11, 2014 · 32 Comments

To say we adore Marcy & Bryan (known to his nearest and dearest as Barney), would be an understatement.  Our first email from Marcy, listed The Journey Home as her venue.  Curiosity over a new venue, some emails and a drive up north led us to meet & fall in love with this charming barn venue & it’s amazing coordinator Laura!  So later during our first time meeting Marcy in the office, feeling like long lost friends was only natural.  We were over the moon when she emailed us back quickly saying that Barney – who couldn’t make the meeting- said if she loved us, he loved us and thus we marked their date for October.

After the sneak peek in perfectly windy & cool October weather, we took off to “explore” downtown.  Unbeknownst to Marcy, Barney had reached out to us and we’d worked together to create a very fun surprise for her!  Side note: Marcy had worked with us previously on her surprise wedding gift for Barney ;) these two are the sweetest! Back to wedding day, they had been working together to restore a truck, from what Marcy knew they wouldn’t be able to have all of it done in order to have it part of their big day (as was their hope).  While Marcy was attending to the final pieces of wedding prep, Barney had been finishing the truck.  He’d gotten into town early and in what we learned to be true Barney fashion, made friends with a guy who had a garage that he could keep it in until the big reveal.  That’s just the sort of guy he is, one to work hard to surprise his bride and to endear himself to those around him while in the process.  We sort of became smitten with him too!  We love that he’d done this and then worked out a plan so we could capture her beautiful reaction!

After our time with the couple, we met up with the Best Lady – Marcy’s sister and Best Man – Barney’s nephew.  One of our favorite parts of being a part of this wedding, was the sense of family & relationship that was present in every choice.  The way they approached the day, was so intentionally focused on relationship…after spending the last year and half getting to know them, we know this is just an overflow of who they are.

Check back on Thursday for the rest of this wedding!  Contact us to get your wedding date reserved.
