Kristin & Matt Part Two {Parkville, Wedding}

July 12, 2018 · Leave a Comment

We’re back with part two of Matt & Kristin’s wedding day.  We left Parkville and headed to the city for the ceremony, but stopped at English Landing Park for portraits.

We traveled to Central Presbyterian Church of Kansas City, which is historic and huge and beautiful and laced with importance for Kristin, who is a chaplain. There was a dual aisle so Kristin and her dad walked down one side and Matt on the other.  They joined in the center and then went though a procession of high-fives by their bridal party.  Again, all the unique choices they made that curated to be a day that reflected and rejoiced with them.

The dance moves cam out!  We hung out in the basement while we waited for their luxury ride to arrive and enjoyed some moody light as they practiced for their first dance.  These two can dance.  It’s so fun to photograph swing and ballroom dancing and you could just tell these two love it!

After another quick stop – all the iconic KC stuff! We got back to the reception.  They opted for a donut tower as opposed to a traditional cake and seated their guests and themed tables and served them chicken & waffles for dinner!

They set the bar high with their first dance and their guests rose to the occasion!

Matt & Kristin, may you have a life time of dances, more (gluten free) donuts then you can imagine and just the best of adventures together! XO – Sarah & Ginger

Kristin & Matt {Parkville Wedding}

July 10, 2018 · Leave a Comment

Kristin & Matt are kind, faithful and quirky.  It was a privilege to watch them step into marriage together.  We joined them this spring for their special day in Parkville, Missouri.  Matt and his guys were jovial and so easy to hang out with.  It’s always an interesting experience to be a fly on the wall with a group of guys, all the little details, a few hilarious moments and we got them out the door for some photos.  We chose to just hang around VIP Event Space and utilize all the texture and space for our group photos time.  We always feel like low-key and easy the more amenable everyone is to the process!  It’s also funny how quickly people’s personalities can shine through – these guys were hilarious!

Kristin & her entourage of ladies showed up just as we finished with the guys.  They had a low key morning at the salon, wearing the best matching shirts we’ve seen in 10 years of photography!  Kristin was calm.  Her sister is a stylist and so she got the honor of completing her make up before donning the dress, all those special connections fill a wedding day with such importance.  Hanging with the ladies we kept asking, “where did you get that?!”  Kristin had made so many thoughtful choices about her attire in relationship to her wedding theme.  Sometimes in the planning process people deviate from their theme or don’t make enough choices to tie it together – but Kristin was very on point with her details.  LOVE the dancing shoes she scored and even more excited later when she and Matt busted out their awesome moves!

bridesmaids, matching outfits, getting ready attire

Seriously, aren’t those the cutest outfits?!

Once she was all ready to go it was first look time.  These two were so deliberate in the space they made for one another.  They opted to see each other in advance so they could exchange private personal vows -we won’t mention the quick run someone had to made to acquire said vows ;) but all is well that ends well!  It was a very touching exchange, it’s stuff like this that makes our work so special – witnessing these moments.

These ladies, like Kristin, got all dolled up in 20’s themed dresses, headgear and shoes.  We loved the variety of dresses and the cohesion she chose in the jewelry and headpieces.

Stay tuned for the rest of this day!

Scott & Cailin Madrid Theater Wedding {Midtown, Kansas City, MO}

March 26, 2018 · Leave a Comment

Scott & Cailin got married in a cool October weekend.  Their day was full of personal touches, family heirlooms, intentional choices, nods to their passions/interests and best of all, celebration.  All things, that weddings should be in our opinion!  We began the day at The 816 Hotel in the heart of Midtown where Cailin was gathered with her ladies, her mom, Scott’s mom & sisters.  Just one floor up Scott & his groomsmen were preparing.  It’s always amusing to compare the hustle and bustle with a bride with the relaxed joking and video games surrounding grooms.  It was easy to tell that both Scott & Cailin were nervous as well as excited for the day the lay ahead.

Because of the fall season and their ceremony time and Missouri – for real – they opted for a sneak peek.  We were able to duck out of the hotel with just the bride & groom and head to The Nelson Art Galley (where Cailin works!) for their first look.  The couple decided to exchange rings during this time, which we felt was a very special touch. We met up with the bridal party at a local arcade.  This felt like the perfect spot for Scott, the comic & game enthusiast!  With a few tables moved around, a few chairs to stand on ;) and some creative thinking – we were able to snag some fun images of the group as well!

We then took a trolly over toward Pilgrim Chapel and had a lot of fun with group portraits on some stairs on the side of an old building.  The weather was turning on us and getting seriously SOO cold, so we were all happy to get moving toward ceremony time!

Check back for part two at the Madrid Theater!

Jerome & Brynne Mission, Kansas Reception {Mission Hills Country Club}

January 21, 2018 · Leave a Comment

Mission Hills Country Club provided a tranquil and stunning backdrop for Brynne & Jerome’s wedding reception this fall.  After the ceremony Brynne & Jerome opted for bridal party portraits at the Nelson Atkins Museum of Art and then we traveled via trolly where they arrived at Missions Hills for their bride and groom portraits.  We had a lot of fun on this windy day with the cathedral length veil.

We’re big fans of a country club weddings, and of course Mission Hills is a favorite!  Brynne & Jerome had a head table where they seated their parents and grandparents, affectionally called the Hall Lee Jelly.  It was gestures like this which really left a mark on us as we witnessed their union.

Cake and then chimes to signal dinner, followed by toasts that made us laugh and cry and raise a glass to a live being lived well, and a bright and love-filled future being anticipated!

As a final touch of perfect for this day, KC Flo.  Seriously, this live band option with incredible mash ups quickly became our new favorite way to dance at a reception!!

They wouldn’t let the evening pass without a nod to their rivalry!  Which was so fun and engaging for everyone!

Jerome & Brynne, thank you for being so fantastic, for finding each other and choosing us to document your love.  We wish you a life of gratitude and love! XO – Sarah & Ginger

Creative Event Studio is now known as Sarah & Ginger Photography!

March 17, 2017 · 2 Comments

That title says it all, after years (seriously) of debating whether or not we should change our business name we have decided to make the leap and do it.  Why?  The name Creative Event Studio has served us well over the last 8 years but to be honest, after the first year we knew that it just wasn’t ‘right’.  Many of you will remember that when we first launched the business we had intentions of doing photography and event design.  We still love a great party, but we pretty quickly decided that photography was the best fit for us.  The bad part is that after we dropped that service offering our name really didn’t make sense.  The side effect of the ‘bad’ name is that because we are a two person team (and the two of us are often confused for the other at first meeting) is that it wasn’t memorable.  If by chance someone did remember the name then they didn’t necessarily remember our names, if they did remember our personal names then they couldn’t remember the business name.  That’s just not good!

SARAH-AND-GINGER-FILLED-IN

The overwhelming response to this change so far has been very positive!  In our hearts we feel like this change is good.  Nothing else about us is changing, just the name.  We are still the same girls, same photography, same products – just a new name!  We are excited about this new chapter (even though the paperwork is such a drudge to get through) and beyond happy to have a name that we feel matches us and our service.

If you are already following along with us on social media then the only difference that you may notice are the handles.  Instead of being known as @photosbyces we will be @sarahgingerphoto.  Follow us on Instagram, or on Facebook.

What do you guys think – is the new name better?  And what do you think of the logo?  We big, puffy heart love it.  ;)

Brandon & Alyssa’s Deer Creek Outdoor Ceremony & Reception {Wedding Photography}

December 6, 2016 · Leave a Comment

Brandon & Alyssa said, “I do” this summer at Deer Creek Country Club.  And as we shared after their engagement, these two are just so likable.  It is an incredible thing to walk into a group of women getting dressed for the day and be welcomed into their laughter and joy and friendship.  We were very quickly smitten by the families and friends of these two.  Their day was full of special surprises, important details, personalized cupcakes and lots of joy!  Take a peek into their day…

These guys were on point, sometimes guys don’t like to be in front of the camera or need a little more encouragement to pose, but not Brandon and his men, they were ready to go and made our job so simple!ab-blog-5

Seriously, these robes, these ladies…a blast!ab-blog-6 ab-blog-7 ab-blog-8

Okay, that face Alyssa is making, that’s the moment she saw herself as a bride.  It was awesome.  Alyssa’s charm and grace come from straight from her awesome mom, Camilla!  We love moments with mothers & daughters pre-ceremony. ab-blog-9 ab-blog-10

Opting for a sneak peek, we headed into a beautiful portrait session with these two.  They just melted into each other and were such a breeze!ab-blog-11 ab-blog-12 ab-blog-13 ab-blog-14

Seriously, these two!  Check on Thursday for the rest of their wedding.

Introducing Our New Line of Custom Albums!

November 30, 2016 · Leave a Comment

This post has been a long time in the making.  We have offered albums and canvas’s for a long time but over the past year we knew we wanted to up our album game to offer more choices and more custom products.  After reviewing seemingly thousands of albums we are SO thrilled with our new product offerings.  kansas-city-wedding-photographer-album-custom-white-leather-red-tree-albums-creative-event-studio-boutique-small-business-brookside-gardens-loose-mansion-2

For several years we have offered a traditional black leather wedding album.  We still offer that album because it’s a good, solid, traditional piece.  It comes in 5 wonderful leathers, including some rustic leather cover options.  However, when we began talking through what products to add we knew we wanted some diversity amongst the cover choices and something that was a ‘lighter’ feeling.    When we came across this album line we knew that they were the perfect fit for our clients.  From the moment we opened the box we were in love.  Each album comes with a velour bag and a card with care instructions for your album.  The front and end papers are a thick, luxe linen card stock paper.  But the real show stopper of this album is the cover.  Oh that cover!  Everyone who sees this album wants to touch it.  It is a deep full grain leather with a custom designed and engraved title.  The details of this album are to die for.

In addition to another leather album we also chose to take a risk, for us, and order a luxe linen cover.  Honestly we have always been afraid of colored album colors – which now seems very silly as we are head over heels in love with the look of the one we chose.  We ordered this album not only to diversify our album choices but to show a more modern, stream lined album look.  As much as I love the custom cover on the new leather album I equally adore this more simple, clean lined emboss on the linen.

kansas-city-wedding-photographer-album-custom-white-leather-red-tree-albums-creative-event-studio-boutique-small-business-brookside-gardens-loose-mansion-5

We didn’t just stop by adding the two new albums tho, we also decided to add gift folios to our product offerings.  These are hands down the most beautiful, classic way to gift images to parents, grandparents, or other important people in your life.  It comes in an oatmeal linen color with 6 thick cut 5 x 7 mats.  It really is the best way to honor those who contributed to your wedding through photos.

kansas-city-wedding-photographer-album-custom-white-leather-red-tree-albums-creative-event-studio-boutique-small-business-brookside-gardens-loose-mansion-4

The biggest difference that most people will notice about the new albums that we offer vs the old one is the cover.  We try very hard to offer a curated collection of products to our couples because in a world of choices it can be so easy to be overwhelmed with everything that you could do with your images that you end up actually doing nothing.  However, one of the biggest things that we knew we wanted for our clients was the option to work with us to customize their wedding album.  With this new line of books we have lots of options!  We have the ability to customize the front engraving of your cover to be any text, font, or logo within a 7 x 3 area.  Our clients also have lots of beautiful cover options to choose from.  I have not counted but there are probably 40 different cover options to choose from that include different Italian leathers and linens and silks.

kansas-city-wedding-photographer-album-custom-white-leather-red-tree-albums-creative-event-studio-boutique-small-business-brookside-gardens-loose-mansion-6

We are over the moon excited about these products and have been showing them off to everyone!  If you are a past client who would like to take a look at the new albums email me at [email protected] to set up a time to stop by the showroom and we’ll get a time set up! What do you guys think, do you prefer a leather album to a linen cover?
