Spring is sprung rather early around here, and the calendar is filling up with Engagement Sessions! We recently revived a post about the crucial importance of these sessions, but today we wanted to help with how to dress for your engagement session, and other tips/tricks.
We ask couples to pick the location. We do that very intentionally. We want a space to reflect you, be a place of importance and comfort for you. We always offer suggestions, we’re looking for interesting texture, not so crowded and looking to schedule during ‘ideal’ lighting times (first thing in the morning or as the sun is setting into evening). Props are welcomed. Thinking drinking wine (or craft beer) on a blanket is your ideal weekend activity? Bring it with you!
But really, the chief worry is, how do I dress for this? Two outfits are allowed, giving couples a chance for a more formal look and a more relaxed look. ‘A bold print or bright color on a simple silhouette, like the always figure-flattering fit and flare, is the best way to maximize on ‘less is more.’ via The Trunk Club
One of my go to places for inspiration is always, Pintrest. Great place to start, but easy to get overwhelmed, because my closet (as of yet) isn’t so artfully stocked. So may I suggest, start simple. What are you working with? Do you have a necklace that is really beautiful (and blingy!), build from there. Does your man look so perfect in a cardigan, go from there. Find a starting ground and build up. Do you want to give a nod to your wedding colors, so you know someone much be wearing some Rose Quartz? Or perhaps you’re famous for always wearing scarves? Find your favorite (or splurge on a new one) and then use that as your inspiration starting ground.
I would recommend it’s not ideal to go with something totally outside your box, you’ll find you’re not comfortable and that can translate in your pictures, if not at least in your experience. Thinking a formal look? “Slip into a dress with unique details like a fine lace overlay, an unusual neckline, or a hint of sparkle. Just as champagne turns a party into a celebration, these special touches will transform your basic black dress into the belle of the bash.” via The Trunk Club
And please don’t forget the accessories, yet I caution you to tastefully edit. What I mean is, small details – he’s wearing a tie, go for a tie clip and don’t forget the watch. Bring a clutch if you have one that just is charming and you’ve picked an urban plaza-esq background. Earrings, delicate bracelet and scarf…these details can draw together your look.
