We were so looking forward to Alex & Katie’s wedding day. They are the sweetest duo. They are college sweethearts (see their engagement session at Baker University here) and fully live up to everything you think of from that description. One of the things I love most of them is that we adore Alex just as much as we do Katie. You’d think as female photographers we’d always connect with our brides more than our grooms, but that really isn’t the case. Alex is sarcastic and has an easy, self-depreciating humor that makes him a lot of fun to be around.
When we sat down to map out their timeline it was decided we’d meet up with the guys at Alex’s house for the men to get ready and their group photos. We arrived to a house packed with men watching a football game. Men are so different than women on a wedding day. It was so fun to sit back and watch the men get themselves ready while pausing to break out in celebration over touchdown and ref calls. After they were all primped and ready we headed outside to a nearby area for their group pictures. The sun was perfect that morning and allowed for us to capture these images. These guys clean up pretty good, right?!
Then we headed off to meet Katie and her maids at the Town Suite Marriott in Overland Park. I just gotta say that as great as Alex and Katie are their wedding party was equally wonderful. Not only were all of the bridesmaids dressed and ready when we got there they were on point helping Katie getting ready. This bride was truly surrounded by her near and dears throughout the entire day. Her mom, Hillary, was there too and she was just another one of the girls. (Hi, Hillary!) We so enjoyed getting to see she and Katie together. As mama’s ourselves it is so precious for us to capture the relationships between our couples and their mama’s. (tear)
The ladies headed out side for their pictures as well. Did I mention it was a little chilly out that day? It wasn’t cold, but it was just enough to not be warm. It’s a little bit bigger of a deal for ladies when on these days than it is for the men because we have a lot less layers on! They pulled together and stood side-by-side (isn’t that a great picture of friendship) in the cool weather for their group pictures.
We decided that the sneak peek would take place just outside the hotel on the course at Deer Creek. It was a little chilly that day, but I don’t think that is why these two had the jitters. They were both equally nervous and ready to see each other. As they turned and were walking towards each other a golfer yelled out ‘FOUR’ as a golf ball headed towards Katie! It was just the right amount of comedic relief that they needed in the moment. Immediately following they embraced and whispered their ‘hellos’ and ‘I love yous’.
Once these two had seen each other it was time to get married!
Stop by back on Thursday for the 2nd half of Katie & Alex’s wedding day. We’ll be showing their bridal and wedding party portraits as well as a highlight of their reception (spoiler: this was a dancin’ crowd!)
